Elixir in the mixer!

Elixir is proud to be one of twelve San Francisco design firms whose work is showcased in San Francisco Graphic Design, a new exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Craft + Design. If you’re in the neighborhood, join us at the opening preview on Thursday evening, January 15, from 5 to 9 pm. Elixir’s mini-exhibit will include a retrospective of holiday gifts to friends and clients, plus selected work for local events and innovators.

Communication Arts profiles Elixir

The January/February 2009 issue of CA, featuring an in-depth article about Elixir, is on newsstands now. Founder Jennifer Jerde talks about Elixir’s “North Star” branding process, and clients describe their experiences working with the firm. Event designer Stanlee Gatti, who has collaborated with Elixir on projects for Lucasfilm, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the California Academy of Sciences, and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, pays the supreme compliment, “I don’t think there’s anyone like them!” Download the complete article in pdf format here.

Here comes the… bridal event

Gump’s recently invited Elixir to design collateral for Wedding Chic: a custom logotype, plus print ads and an e-nnouncement with a photograph from frequent Elixir collaborator John Dolan. The bridal brunch on February 8 will present the ultimate in elegant, relevant homewares, supplemented by displays and demos from specialty purveyors. The Wedding Registry at Gump’s has enchanted and inspired generations of Bay Area brides. Elixir has designed and evolved the Gump’s catalogue since 2005, evoking in print the distinctive in-store shopping experience.

We wish you a silver lining

Elixir’s annual holiday gift to clients, colleagues, and friends is always a studio-wide undertaking — from concept to design to packaging to assembly. This year, silver linings seemed just the aspirational thing. Enclosed operating instructions laid things out simply:

Cover pillow with liner.
Cover liner with pillow case.
Rest your head.

Rest your head.

We’ve been delighted by the flurry of appreciation and exclamation points — and by people’s creative descriptions of the linings and the optimism they portend. Wishing you happy holidays and the very best for 2009.

Designerly Dozen

Jennifer Jerde, who alchemized (?!) Elixir in 1992, has been selected as one of a baker’s dozen of San Francisco designers whose work will be showcased in San Francisco Graphic Design. The exhibition opens at the San Francisco Museum of Craft + Design on January 15 (and will run through April 12, 2009).

Curated by Michael Osborne, the exhibition will also provide historical context, including a nod to local design legends and to the illustrious printers who were the City’s first graphic artists.

In addition to showing selected strategic client work, Elixir will display a heady retrospective of the firm’s holiday gifts to clients and friends.

The other designers whose work will be showcased include Barbara Vick of Barbara Vick Design, Josh Chen of Chen Design Associates, Sara Schneider of Chronicle Books, Tom Ingalls of Ingalls Design, Mitchell Mauk of Mauk Design, Michael Schwab of Michael Schwab Studio, Christopher Simmons of Mine, Cinthia Wen of Noon, Jennifer Bostic of Paper Plane Studio, Philippe Becker of Philippe Becker Design, and Adam Brodsley and Eric Heiman of Volume Inc.
