Summer Search Seeks a New Visual Language

ELIXIR Design-Summer Search invitation

Summer Search is a youth development organization founded in Northern California in 1990. They’ve since taken their holistic model to the national level, replicating the program in six additional metropolitan areas. Summer Search partners with high schools to identify low-income students who display certain character attributes. The students receive year-round support – a unique combination of experiential opportunities and a circle of relationships anchored in professional mentoring.

Our first foray into politics

ELIXIR Design-AFC brochure

The American Federation for Children (AFC) is a national advocacy group promoting school choice for parents. This cause is ardently bipartisan — and highly nuanced. If you are concerned about education reform in this country, American Federation for Children are folks to pay attention to.

Some news that’s fit for Print

We’re pleased that our work has been selected for PRINT’s 2010 Regional Design Annual, a comprehensive survey of graphic design in the United States. Three of our recent projects will be included in the December 2010 issue alongside other winning entries.

Greenwood School, a Waldorf-inspired pre-kindergarten through 8th grade based in Mill Valley, CA, worked with Elixir to develop a marketing strategy, brochure and admissions kit.

The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf — A set of tins was part of a comprehensive brand visual language that Elixir developed for the coffee retailer’s ’09 holiday promotion.

The National Fish & Wildlife Foundation 2009 Fundraiser — Elixir designed the invitation and collateral for the event honoring Julie Packard, Executive Director of the Monterey Bay Aquarium.

We were floored

Founded in 1980, Claremont Rug Company specializes in investment-level art rugs — including room-sized Persian carpets and rare 19th century tribal, village, and court area-size rugs. Elixir is delighted to have just completed our first assignment with this new client, a direct mail piece highlighting recent acquisitions.

For those of you considering a flooray into the world of “art for the floor” consider the advice of the Financial Times, which has separately described Claremont Rug as “one of the world’s best sources of antique carpets.” You can read more about Claremont’s business and one-of-a-kind “white glove service” at the New York Times.

Shown here: a handful of Claremont Rug’s newest acquisitions. At the showroom, you can see, touch, and put your best foot forward on museum-quality rugs. {6087 Claremont Avenue, Oakland CA 94618. Hours: Mon — Sat 11.00 am — 6.00 pm}

Present perfect(ly)

Elixir recently devised presentation and workbook materials for Stand & Deliver, a consulting group that trains corporate leaders and their teams on high-performance communications. Workshop directors are experienced executive coaches with years of theater direction and acting experience. To help their international clientele achieve greater levels of influence through the spoken word, Stand & Deliver needed written materials to reinforce workshop content, so that attendees could carry it with them for reference and deployment.

“Elixir helped us translate complex teaching concepts into an elegant, easy-to-read book which has become a primary tool for our clients. The team at Elixir was totally committed to understanding the reader’s experience — from the size, weight and color of the book, to the client’s intellectual and emotional journey through our learning and development program.

Everyone touts the importance of “knowing the client,” but Elixir really did delve deeply to understand the thinking behind the ideas and the outcomes we sought. Elixir’s ‘ensemble approach’ capitalizes on the intellectual and creative collective of their team.”
