Third annual Tipping Point Benefit exceed$ highest hope$

The May 7 Tipping Point Benefit was a stellar success by all accounts—financial as well as social. Despite the economic downbeat, the upscale event was oversold—and funds raised were over-the-top. Daniel Lurie, Tipping Point Founder & President, acknowledged, “We were shooting for $2 million. We didn’t think we could get to $3, but we did!” Elixir is honored to have upped the pre-party buzz by designing the invitation. Daniel Lurie made us smile when he told us, “We had many people say it was the best invitation they’d ever received.” Lurie and the board fund 100% of operating expenses, so that every penny donated goes directly to one of the Bay Area charities vetted {and coached} by the Tipping Point. To learn more about what they do and how they do it, watch this.

Partners in time

Jennifer Jerde, Elixir’s founder and creative director, and frequent collaborator Alyson Kuhn will pair up for a panel discussion on March 5 with three other pairs of creative collaborators. “The Business of Design” is sponsored by the San Francisco Museum of Craft + Design in conjunction with the current exhibition San Francisco Graphic Design. The event will take place at the Hotel Rex (next door to the Museum), 562 Sutter Street, from 6-8 pm. The Museum will be open for a private gallery tour after the program. (Presentation is free to Museum members/$10 for non-members.)

Alyson has worked with Elixir since 2000 on diverse assignments: branding strategies, voice guides, interviews, and client marketing materials. She is also an invaluable contributor to the studio’s own self-promotion, crafting blog posts, staff bios, and project descriptions.

Celebrating the Great Outdoors

Elixir is delighted to be working with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), a non-profit organization established by Congress in 1984 to preserve and restore our nation’s native wildlife species and habitats. The Foundation directs public conservation dollars to the most pressing environmental needs and matches those funds with private contributions.

Elixir is creating invitations and event collateral for NFWF’s annual Bay Area fundraising event: ‘Celebrating the Great Outdoors,’ to be held March 24th. This year’s honoree is Julie Packard, marine biologist and Executive Director of the Monterey Bay Aquarium. San Francisco’s own Stanlee Gatti will be designing the event.

Since its inception, NFWF has invested more than 1.5 billion in conservation, providing over 10,000 grants to more than 3,500 organizations in all 50 states and over 50 other countries.

We wish you a silver lining

Elixir’s annual holiday gift to clients, colleagues, and friends is always a studio-wide undertaking—from concept to design to packaging to assembly. This year, silver linings seemed just the aspirational thing. Enclosed operating instructions laid things out simply:

Cover pillow with liner.
Cover liner with pillow case.
Rest your head.

Rest your head.

We’ve been delighted by the flurry of appreciation and exclamation points—and by people’s creative descriptions of the linings and the optimism they portend. Wishing you happy holidays and the very best for 2009.

The things you’ll do for peanuts… holiday wrap 2008

Pelican Inn, Muir Beach

Every November, the Elixir team gathers to assemble and mail a holiday gift to friends and family. This year we met around the fire at the Pelican Inn in Muir Beach. (For you non-locals, yes, this is what the holiday season looks like in Northern California.) We rented out the main dining area, with plenty of room to spread out our assembly line. We hope you enjoyed the warmth, freedom and flexibility of the fingerless gloves. We found ours wonderfully convenient at the keyboard on frosty mornings, tying shoelaces at the Muni stop, chopping garlic, and eating roasted organic peanuts in the shell. More »
